After the glorious victory of united Greek forces against Persia, the feud separated the Peloponnesus peninsula under Sparta rule from Greece, led by Athens. Greece's two biggest poles were preparing for war. Sparta formed the Peloponnesian Union, Athens gathered her allies in the Delian Union.The iron force of Spartan hoplites was almost invincible, but Athenians fleet was superior. Moreover, the Athenians built the Long Walls to protect their capital. Both sides were only awaiting an occasion to send their armies to battle. It all happened in 431 BC ...
